- For salvation. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” Mark 16:16.
- To enter into Christ. “Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?” Romans 6:3.
- To put on Christ. “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ.” Galatians 3:27.
- For the washing away of sins. “And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on His name.” Acts 22:16.
- To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. “And Peter said unto them, repent ye and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and: ye shaII receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38
- To enter into the trinity. “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19.
- To enter into the kingdom of God. “Jesus answered, Verily, verily I say unto thee, except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John 3:5.
- To be saved. “Which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” I Peter 3:21.
- For obedience to a divine command. “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.” Acts 10:48.
