I hear them on the radio or in my play list and almost instantly I my mind goes back to an event or person in my past. Some songs remind me of good times and others remind me of events I would choose not to remember if I could.

God’s word gives us the songs of people in the bible because that is how they remember events as well. I think of the song of Mary Luke 1:46-55, upon seeing Elizabeth, who was also pregnant, she rejoiced to God in a song. This is recorded for us to read and meditate on!

So as you think about songs, think about the words God has given us in the Bible of songs of those who came before us, some inspire, some lament, but all are worth reading.

“My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.”

Music!
